Employment Dilemma – A Friend, Looking for a Job…

Uh-oh, should I help her get this job?

Here’s your dilemma… A friend of yours gets you an interview (that got you your current job) and now is in need of a job. You’re heard she’s had problems at a previous job. Do you…

a) Tell her there are no other positions (even if there are)
b) Help her with her resume
c) Promise to give her name to the HR person

Play the video for the answer…

MORE COMMENTS from “The Employment Lady”…

How far are you willing to go for a friend? Have you ever loaned someone money – just until payday? Another friend needs a ride, but they NEVER offer gas money. It’s a tough position because it’s hard to determine where the friendship begins and the workplace ends. I guarantee it will also alter the friendship.

Of course, I’m not suggesting you can’t help someone get a job. Just be aware that every time they miss a deadline or fall short in some way, the director may start to look at you for their faults. Not only that, but consider that there’s an unspoken expectation that runs in people’s head as well.

(I thought you were gonna’ do it) I know, it’s not fair, but each time your buddy has an issue, I guarantee they’ll bring it to you for fixin’.

Help comes in many forms. But it needs to be made clear how far you’re willing to go in an effort that requires them to take the lead.

Check out my blog posts, test yourself – and challenge your friends to master the Employment Dilemma game.

If you’ve got a story to tell where you helped a friend get a job – that was either a disaster or a ‘happliy ever after’ – share it with me by commenting. I promise to respond.
